We get asked quite often about what all the different antioxidants are and what they do. Today, we are going to take a quick look at I-3-C and what it can offer for our health.
I-3-C is an antioxidant that is found in vegetables such as: broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, collard greens, cauliflower, kale, mustard greens, turnips and rutabagas.
I-3-C has taken the interest of cancer researchers at the NIH (National Institute of Health) because its been shown to help prevent or slow the growth of cancer cells and it is now in a clinical trial to help prevent breast cancer. I-3-C can also be used to treat fibromyalgia, tumors caused by a virus, and systemic lupus erythematosus. It can also be used to balance hormone levels and detoxify the intestines and liver.
Animal labs have shown that I-3-C stimulate detoxifying enzymes which help eliminate harmful toxins and harmful forms of estrogen which could potentially cause cancer. In a controlled study done at Louisiana State University Medical Center they gave 30 women with abnormal cell growth on the cervix I-3-C (200 mg or 400 mg) or a placebo. 4 out of 8 women who took 200 mg of I-3-C and 4 of 9 who took 400 mg showed a total regression in their 12 week biopsy, the other women saw their risk of cancer reduced and the placebo group had no change.
