BCAA’s: Better Recovery, Better muscle gains

BCAA’s: Better Recovery, Better muscle gains

Today we are going to feature some of our favorite products that we love to use ourselves, and some of the reasons why we love them. Also, we are also going to share some behind the scenes footage of our recent move!

Lavender Essential Oil

First up today is the Lavender essential oil from Now. We love this product because it is quite frankly the best value for money. We carry many different types of Lavender oil from various different companies, each company has their own extraction process and sources their raw materials from different areas of the world. This can result in various different qualities and smells. Out of all of the lavender oils, we have tried, this one is a good mid-range Lavender oil for one of the best prices – a 30ml bottle is $17.99 at our Westmount location.

Lavender oil has a wide range of uses, these include being used to relieve nervous tension, migraines, stress & anxiety, pain, disinfect the scalp, skin, and used for acne treatment.

Lavender oil has also been used to enhance blood circulation, treat respiratory problems like the cold, flu and asthma, as well as for hair care including for lice, alopecia, and male pattern baldness prevention. Finally, this wonder oil has also been used as a bug repellant, sleep aid, and for urinary disorders.

Fun fact: The Latin word for Lavender is Lavare, which means “to wash”, due to its pleasant scent. Much of this information was discovered on OrganiFacts.com, we found them to be a great resource online, you can see some more of their other articles here.

Mammoth BCAAs: Better Recovery, Better Gains

Next up is the BCAA’s, or branched chain amino acids. BCAA’s are a workout supplement that help in the building of lean muscle mass when combined with regular weight or resistance training and a healthy well-balanced diet.  BCAA’s are the essential amino acids L-leucine, L-isoleucine and L-valine, which comprise around 36% of your body’s muscle protein. They are considered “essential” because your body doesn’t produce them on your own —you have to get them from food and workout supplements.

BCAAs can help you to get more out of your daily gym sessions, because like other amino acids, BCAAs are the building blocks of protein. However these particular aminos may also help preserve muscle glycogen stores, which will fuel your muscles and minimize protein breakdown during exercise.

Better Recovery, Better muscle gains

BCAAs can also help enhance the muscle protein recovery after your workout, especially these BCAAs from Mammoth because they have an added amino, L-Glutamine. L-Glutamine promotes muscle growth and decreases muscle wasting. When you consume Mammoth BCAAs with carbs, emerging research suggests that leucine is one of the most important ingredients when it comes to regulating genetic signaling pathways involved in muscle protein synthesis. This is why high quality BCAA supplements have a high ratio of leucine to isoleucine and valine. A typical daily dose for the average person includes five grams of leucine, four grams of valine and two grams of isoleucine.

In conclusion, BCAAs can be a great addition to your workout to help you with muscle growth and recovery. Combine these with a good protein shake, and you will be providing your body with the fuel it needs to achieve the best results at the gym!

Nutri CURe from Naka

Our final feature is Nutri CURe by Naka

First off, let’s start by saying this: We love Naka products! With a passion. They are really well thought out products, their formulas are exceptional, they taste great and most important… they work. They work really well. We often find ourselves recommending Naka products because we use so many ourselves and we just can’t help but share the pain relief that these products can provide.

The Naka Nutri CURe is a liquid Turmeric and Black pepper combination that is emulsified with organic sunflower lecithin for enhanced bioavailability. The plant turmeric (Curcuma longa) is very well known in India and is used in numerous dishes in Indian cuisine. The root is harvested, cleaned, dried, and powdered to be used as a spice (turmeric gives curry its beautiful golden yellow colour) and as a medicine. Just as oranges are primarily a source of vitamin C, turmeric is a source of curcumin.

Turmeric is traditionally used in herbal medicine as an anti-inflammatory to help relieve joint pain. It has also been traditionally used in Ayurveda to relieve pain and inflammation and assist the healing of minor wounds such as cuts and burns, as well as minor skin irritations.

What sets the Naka Nutri CURe product aside from the other turmeric based products on the market is that it is formulated to relieve aching joint pain associated with osteoarthritis. Using a liquid suspension technology allows more effective absorption of nutrients than solid supplements.

Modern research has shown that the use of turmeric for arthritic conditions is effective for a number of reasons, firstly it reduces free radical damage, secondly, it increases the production of naturally produced anti-inflammatory substances in the body. Finally, curcumin reduces histamine levels and may increase the production of natural cortisone by the adrenal glands that act as an anti-inflammatory.

To close out this post, curcumin protects tissues against oxidative damage and degeneration that in turn decreases inflammation in joint tissue. A preliminary trial in people with rheumatoid arthritis found curcumin to be useful for decreasing inflammation and symptoms.
